실종된 동생 (Missing brother)

2009년 태국 푸켓.
그곳에는 21세의 여자 상인이 살고 있었습니다. 식구라고는 14살짜리 남동생 1명뿐이었습니다.
 
어느 날 저녁 9시, 그녀는 동생이 심각한 잘못을 해서 파리채로 손바닥을 때렸습니다.
- 상인 : 한 번만 더 말썽을 피우면, 창고에 가둘 거다! {ถ้าแกประพฤติตัวไม่ดีอีกครั้ง ฉันจะขังแกไว้ในห้องเก็บของ!}
 
동생은 자신의 잘못을 뉘우치지 아니하고 손바닥을 때린 누나가 무서워 화장실에 숨어버렸습니다.
- 상인 : (구시렁거리며 울고 있음)

 

다음 날, 오전 6시. 상인은 동생의 방에 가서 동생을 깨우러 갔습니다.

- 상인 : 데차(상인의 동생 이름), 얼른 일어나! 벌써 6시야! {เดชา ตื่นได้แล้ว!! ตอนนี้ก็ 6(หก) โมงเช้าแล้ว!}

 

그런데 동생이 갑자기 실종되었습니다. 그녀는 동생을 찾기 위해 집을 나섰습니다. 제일 먼저, 동생과 가장 친한 친구의 집에 갔습니다.

- 상인 : 너 데차 못 봤니? {คุณเคยเห็นน้องชายของฉันไหม?}

이번에는 청소하는 아주머니를 만났어요.

- 상인 : 아주머니, 데차 어디 갔는지 아세요? {คุณผู้หญิง คุณรู้ไหมว่าเดชาไปไหน?}

상인은 동생이 동네에 없는 것을 알게 되었습니다. 그녀는 부모님을 여의고 하나밖에 없는 남동생에게 체벌을 한 것이 후회되었습니다. 속으로는 부모님께 잘못을 빌며 동생을 찾아달라고 기도하였어요.

- 상인 : (하늘을 보며 기도 중) 엄마, 아빠, 데차를 일방적으로 체벌한 거 잘못했어요. 제발, 우리 데차를 찾아주세요! {แม่ พ่อ ผมขอโทษที่ลงโทษเดชา โปรดตามหาเขาให้พบ!}

 

그녀는 시내로 달려가 동생을 찾기로 결심하였어요. 마침내 푸켓 오키드 리조트에 도착해, 손가방에서 스케치북 한 장을 뜯어 편지를 쓰고 그 종이를 기둥에다가 스카치 테이프로 붙였습니다.

 

상인의 편지 : [데차, 미안해! 집으로 돌아가서 다시 행복하게 살자!] {เดชา ขอโทษครับ! กลับบ้านไปใช้ชีวิตให้มีความสุขกันต่อเถอะครับ!}

 

다음 날, 오후 3시. 그녀는 종이를 붙인 기둥 앞에 갔어요. 그 기둥 옆에는 데차라는 이름을 가진 소년이 5명 있었죠. 모두가 가출하거나 고아인 소년들이었죠. 그중에는 손바닥 몇 대 맞은 게 무서워 도망친 그녀의 남동생 데차도 있었습니다.

- 상인 : (미소를 띠며) 데차! {เดชา!}

- 데차 : (용기를 내어) 누나! {พี่สาว!}

데차는 누나에게 달려가 포옹을 하며 다시는 가출하지 않기로 결심했답니다.

Phuket, Thailand, 2009.

There lived a female merchant, her age of 21. Her only family member was her 14-year-old younger brother.

One evening at 9 pm, she hitted her younger brother on the palm of his hand with a fly swatter because he had done something seriously bad behavior.
- Merchant: If you misbehave one more time, I’ll lock you in the storage room! {ถ้าแกประพฤติตัวไม่ดีอีกครั้ง ฉันจะขังแกไว้ในห้องเก็บของ!}

The younger brother did not repent his fault and hid in the bathroom because he was afraid of his sister who had caned him.
- Merchant: (Crying and mumbling)

The next day, at 6 am, the merchant went to her younger brother’s room to wake him up.

- Merchant: Decha (younger brother’s name), wake up! It’s already 6 am! {เดชา ตื่นได้แล้ว!! ตอนนี้ก็ 6(หก) โมงเช้าแล้ว!}

But then her younger brother suddenly went missing. She left the house to find him. First, I went to Decha's best friend's house.

- Merchant: Haven't you seen Decha? {คุณเคยเห็นน้องชายของฉันไหม?}

This time, I met a cleaning lady.

- Merchant: Ma'am, do you know where Decha went? {คุณผู้หญิง คุณรู้ไหมว่าเดชาไปไหน?}

The merchant found out that her brother was not in the neighborhood. She regretted having punished her only brother after parents were passed away. She prayed to her parents inwardly to find her brother.

 

- Merchant: (Praying while looking at the sky) Mom, Dad, I was sorry to punish Decha unilaterally. Please, find our Decha! {แม่ พ่อ ผมขอโทษที่ลงโทษเดชา โปรดตามหาเขาให้พบ!}

She decided to run into town to find her brother. Finally, when she arrived at Phuket Orchid Resort, she tore a piece of sketchbook out of her handbag, wrote a letter, and taped it to a pillar.

The merchant's letter: [Decha, I'm sorry! Let's go back home and live happily ever after!] {เดชา ขอโทษครับ! กลับบ้านไปใช้ชีวิตให้มีความสุขกันต่อเถอะครับ!}

The next day, at 3 pm, she went to the pillar where she had pasted the paper. Next to the pillar were five boys named Decha. They were all runaways or orphans. Among them was her younger brother Decha, who had run away in fear after being hit a few times his hand.

- Merchant: (Smiling) Decha! {เดชา!}

- Decha: (Courageously) Sister! {พี่สาว!}

Decha ran to his sister, hugged her, and decided never to run away again.
